President Jeffrey Schmid on Economic Disruption

Kicking off The Economic Club of Kansas City’s 2026 Disruption speakers series, KC Federal Reserve President Jeffrey Schmid gives businesses and banks a highly anticipated economic forecast for the next year.

The Kansas City Federal Reserve Chair will give an outlook on the state of the economy and address interest rates, inflation and employment.

This, after many industries feel the disruption of unprecedented change ushered in by a volatile, post pandemic economy. In 2025, President Schmid was a voting member on the Federal Open Market Committee, which sets monetary policy for the United States.

Last year introduced a fair amount of uncertainty into the economic outlook—uncertainty that I don’t think has been resolved.

Jeffrey Schmid leads a workforce of close to 2,000 employees in Kansas City and Omaha, Denver and Oklahoma City.

In 2025, Schmid served as a voting member on the Federal Open Market Committee, which sets monetary policy for the United States. Schmid will serve as a voting member again in 2028.

The Kansas City Federal Reserve is responsible for conducting monetary policy, providing financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. Treasury; and supervising nearly 1,000 banking organizations across its seven-state region.Before joining the Kansas City Fed in August 2023, he served as president and CEO of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University.He has several decades of experience leading banks and began his career as an examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
