World Cup Phenom Alexi Lalas

FOX Sports Soccer Analyst

Fox Sports commentator and soccer icon Alexi Lalas joins former longstanding FIFA Council member and leading sports economist Sunil Gulati to talk about the economics of the biggest sporting event on earth.

They will discuss how the global investment in the World Cup reshapes local communities like host city Kansas City.

As one of the best defenders in soccer history, Alexi Lalas is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and one of the sport’s most recognizable personalities.

Lalas has covered the FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup for many years. He’s best known as a standout defender during the 1994 World Cup and a key member on 1992 US Olympic team and 1998 World Cup squad.

He had a long MLS career with MetroStars, Kansas City Wizards and Los Angeles Galaxy. He hosts the weekly podcast Alexi Lalas’ State of the Union.

Former FIFA Council President

Sunil Gulati is the former longstanding president of the US Soccer Federation and FIFA Council member. After more than 40 years of experience at all levels of soccer in the US, he was inducted as a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame 2019.

He has been a member of CONCACAF and chaired the US/Mexico/Canada bid for the World Cup 2026. He also served as the country economist for the emerging country of Moldova.

Mr. Gulai currently teaches the Principles of Economics, Sports Economics and The Global Economy along with Sports Economics and Policy at Columbia University.
